Another Ford problem.

Federal safety officials are investigating complaints that the Ford Freestyle crossover vehicle can lunge unexpectedly when driving at low speeds or idling.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says it has received 238 complaints involving 2005 through 2007 Freestyles. Eighteen minor crashes were reported with one minor injury.

Those cars have a lot of issues, particularly with the CVT transmissions. I wonder if it is a software issue with the transmission. What I find most interesting is that it's a NHTSA led investigation, not something started by Ford. I wonder if they pulled a "Toyota" and neglected their own data about problems.

Just like the dog and pony trials when gas prices go up.

Feel free to reference any of the 4 or so threads were I refuted the idea that there was "nothing wrong" with Toyota's and why the investigation played out the way it did. Remember there are two ways recalls get started, one is by NHTSA receiving enough complaints to justify a statistical issue. The other is by an automaker recognizing an issue through its own internal data and notifying NHTSA. Toyota's data pointed to a known problem with the accelerators and floor mats as far back as 2006, but they failed to act on that information.

This is what I meant by Ford may have pulled a Toyota.
