It seems that no matter what recipe I use for my bread machine, it seems as if the crust is getting harder and harder with each loaf. What am I doing wrong?

Is it hard AFTER it cools or when it came out of the oven?

Right out of the machine. Even worse when it cools.

You could try a lighter crust setting. Bread machine bread tends to be on the crusty side anyway, though. Another trick is to brush the warm loaf with butter and cover it. That tends to soften the crust and adds buttery deliciousness.

Hmm ... bet my DH would love a loaf of fresh bread for the morning. Maybe I'll set it up on timer tonight. That's a great smell to wake up to!
