I wouldn't necessarily place Gulfport near the top. It's very small and surrounded by some rough areas. In terms of "progressive" which doesn't always equate to liberal (but usually does) I would look at cities like St Petersburg or Ft Lauderdale. For smaller cities places like Lake Worth or Gainesville would be worth exploring.

Good map. Pretty much tells the story, politically anyway. Although a few areas like where I live (Sarasota) should be purple.

Especially if one takes away the gerrymandered re-districting.

So that would be around Homestead?

Miami seemed to be heavily Cuban/Hispanic and not particularly friendly, I don't know much about surrounding areas. I have relatives in Ft Lauderdale and Boca Raton but they are pretty conservative people so I don't think that's the spot.

Yes, I mean voting behaviour especially, but I like artsy too. 'Hipster' has been thrown around a lot from what I've seen online but I'm still not sure what that means. Rich but faking poverty to be cool? Trust fund?

I haven't been to Gainesville so maybe I should check that out.

I was at a guitar store in downtown ST Pete and it seemed very poor. In fact I 've seen a lot of poor areas in the state. I haven't heard of Lake Worth but I will check it out-thanks. Other people have told me to look at Gainesville. Maybe I should look at voting records.

I wouldn't base my visit to St Pete on a trip to a guitar store of all places. St Pete is anything but very poor...go through the downtown area which is very evidently in continued revitalization and report back about all the poor people patronizing the shops/restaurants that continue to open up all over the downtown area. St Pete's average household income is 45K, which has jumped 35% in ten years. Very few cities have seen income growth anywhere near that in recent history.

From the last presidential election, yes. So basically, you'd be looking at Tampa, St. Pete, Miami, Ft. Laud, Boca, Palm Beach, Orlando, and the two big college towns. Note I didn't say Clearwater, because I refuse to acknowledge any town run by Scientologists as a potential place to live.
