anyway both houses of the florida legislature have passed the Timely justice act otherwise known as death penalty reform. for me I was personally shocked by how bad the law is.

I love the racism angle in that story, wouldn't expect anything less from the Huffington Post.

True I don't like the Huntington post but the law regardless of that is one even I can't support. I thought they were going to address the simple majority vote flaw as well as put sentencing in the hands of the jury but they didn't. instead they made a bad system even worse by preventing governors from issuing pardons or stays and forcing their hand when it come to Death Warrants. I'm truly fearful of this law due to the corruption there is in this state. if this was Kansas or Ohio I wouldn't be as concerned but in Florida we have a notorious track record when it comes to false accusations. it's not like I'm against the death penalty. I'm a strong believer in it. But this law, this terribly crafted piece of legislation undermines one of my core values which is the right to due process and the idea of Innocent until proven guilty beyond any REASONABLE DOUBT.
As such I have already emailed My Governor, Rick Scott, listing my grievances with this bill and I've asked him to veto the bill and propose to the legislator amendments that would restore the integrity of the Judaical system. Such as requiring unanimous jury decisions and having the death penalty handed out by the jury instead of by a judge. If he wish's to win back my vote on election day he MUST veto this bill or face being fired because of the horrible job he has done as my Governor.
