I would like to move to Florida but I keep hearing that the rates have doubled.
Is this true for all areas?
PS How are the bugs up North around Tampa, Ocala, Port Richey areas?

Mine went from $2400 to $4500. I have had no claims.

Hi Buddy - I'm a newbie here myself. We moved to the Spring HIll/Weeki Wachee area, which is 20 minutes north of Port Richey... and about 90 minutes south of Ocala, in Sept '04. I have to say we have not had a bad time with bugs here - but we live in an area that does get sprayed for bugs - perhaps because we are about 3 1/2 miles from the Gulf. Re's insurance rates... we came from just outside of Washington, DC... home rates are definitely cheaper here for us... car insurance dropped to 1/2 of what we were paying there. We are on what's called the "Nature Coast" of FL... our housing is still cheaper (you get a lot more for less) than once you go south into Pasco county/Port Richey area... we are catching up, but we love it here b/c it's not congested like Port Richey... and we still have a country feeling here.

I bought my house in 1990. My taxes were $0. after homestead (I paid $53,000 for it). My insurance was $200.00 a year. Taxes now $750.00 and rising.(that's before I tear my house down due to hurricane damage and rebuild it. I'm sure they'll go up). Insurance went to $1500 a year and will surely go to $2500.00 or more before I'm through negotiating with the insurance co. and yes I obviously had a claim but will have to add $50,000. of my own to rebuild. I'm further South (Fort Lauderdale - Pembroke Pines Area) and insurance rates have definetly increased. I am currently paying $3074.00 a year for my homeowners insurance for $235,000 worth of coverage not to mention the yearly increase in property taxes.

Good luck to you.

Default Are the rates bad in the center of the state (Orlando etc)?

Hi,
We just became aware that the home insurnace rates have climbed in Florida. Is it the whole state, or just the costal communities?
