One thing I have to say, it's a shame people aren't considered employable by some companies becouse of locks and braids. It's getting better but at one time it was near enough impossible to get certain jobs.
Exactly. While I find some of them cute if clean (not quite sure if they can ever be clean, though), they are an indication of a certain personality and lifestyle. Outside of the entertainment business, you'll see them mostly on dirty bums on the streets or on boys working Trader Joe's registers at best. At least in my neck of the woods you won't see anybody with dreadlocks having a respectable and well paying job.
I find dreads a turn off.
The picture you posted is ok I guess - better than a lot I've seen, but it's just not my thing. Even if you say they are clean, they look dirty to me. All that matted hair just looks like it's begging for some shampoo.
I have never dated someone with dreads, and probably wouldn't. I don't remember ever looking at someone and thinking I would date them if they didn't have dreads, I guess it just doesn't work as a whole package for me.
I dont find anything wrong with dreads, if done well and clean.
But like Sierra said, outside of entertainment or art, there are few careers that would find the look acceptable. I'm not saying there are none, but in many professions they could be limiting. I've known a few people who had them, but eventually most cut them off because they felt they were being judged by their hair instead of by their selves and that was holding them back. Its unfortunate but true.
Awwwww, come on Artsy, you know the Zombie is hot!
