YKK zippers are preferred on jackets or outerwear.
Some of the other zipper quality ruin a garment. Adidas is known to ruin a track suit with cheap zippers.
Talon and Ideal are American companies that have been around for many years and were YKK's chief competition, although I think some Talon zippers are now made in China. However, there is now competition with some zipper manufacturers from China. I often see those off-brand zippers on clothes from Walmart and Target.
Not to the name because brands and their trademarks are being bought and sold all the time with flunctuating quality but Yes to the quality of the zipper because I am sick of paying alot for something and then getting some cheap crappy zopper breaking and costing a fortune to fix or replace. Lesson learned. I wont buy, no matter how nice looking, anything without quality hardware. Done with disposible junk.

No Wonder.
I have noticed the quality of YKK zippers going way down lately. I think some can still be found made in the USA. I recently purchased one off amazon for a leather jacket and it is of exceptional quality. Cost was about $20 though for a 27".

Aaaah disposable junk. If I had a dime for every piece of junk I've had to throw away over the past decade.....
I went back to being a jeans and T-shirt guy with a dress shirt or polo thrown into the mix. These days keep it simple since as you say investing in any item for the long term is risky due to quality.
Even the higher end designer clothing is just a step above junk at "treasures" pricing.
I was wondering, does anyone pay attention to the brand of zippers in their clothes such as pants, shorts, jackets, and sweatshirts? I wonder if the brand really matters as an indicator of quality.
Most of what I buy tends to use YKK, Ideal, or Talon. Some of the cheaper stuff from Walmart might use some lesser known brands.
So, do you pay attention to the brand of zippers on your clothes?
Seriously??? Not even if I were bored to death.
Still have better things to do than check or worry about a zipper brand.
Aren't you??

Most if not all zippers can be repaired quite easily. Check YouTube for tutorials.
