I think it's also because people who are naturally blond hair/blue eyed (typiclly northern european) tend to have the best bone structure and looks (tall, slender, small facial features).
I think that people were attracted to those features maybe in the "older" days, but not anymore. My sons seem to be more attracted to women with dark hair and brown eyes!
I don't think it's the case anymore. I know personally, I am attracted to dark hair. I do like the lighter color eyes, but I can only protest but so much, as my eyes are dark!
In the media, I notice just as much dark as I do light, if not more.
This phenomenon has many very plain looking, and even ugly men and women thinking they are attractive. Most are just average. I don't get the excitement about blond hair and blue eyes.
I must have missed something, because I know of no such "standard." I know gorgeous people of all color combinations, and ugly people as well.

you should go out more often instead of believing everything you see on tv, because youre the first person ive ever heard spout such bigoted, untrue nonsense. even if you are caucasian, you seem to have a problem with white people and should get help

I don't think it is the standard of beauty for men. There aren't really that many blonde men around compared to blonde women...yeah, we all know the reason for that.
As far as women, that image has really been pushed by the media.
It is an exclusionary "beauty" standard that assumes everyone is white.
There are definitely some regional preferences, growing up in CA, it was definitely off the table for men. And later for women as well. But in South Carolina, it was considered "hot." I imagine in Texas it is as well.
Why is blond hair, blue eyes considered the standard of beauty for women and men
