I'm sick of this high-end "sophisticated" lifestyle (cut, protein, looks)

I'm glad to hear that. I went on a "fasting" not to go shopping for 3 months or so, went to Thailand and it change my perspective. Before that, I was addicted to go shopping every weekend. Sometimes I am still tempted to get a $40 dollar pants/dress/shirts but I gotta say no! Beauty, fashion, or whatever cannot buy happiness.
Beauty cannot buy happiness. I am completely beyond miserable. I stopped myself from spending a lot of cash on a product I had been wanting for a few weeks now. I have to be honest with everyone here and myself, until I saw this YouTube video yesterday, I was spending like there's no tomorrow.
Today I did not spend any money and from here on out I am going to focus more on saving so I can get something I really want; a condo on the beach for $150,000. That's a realistic goal and I can get there by the time I'm 30 if I start saving now.
I do not want to be like the woman in that YouTube video. It's so fake. Here is the comment I left for the video yesterday:
"This song makes me sick and it to me just is promoting a life of "world-class luxury" that maybe 1% of society can afford. Vanity in the younger generation is becoming very popular, and I have to say that music like this is only adding to the problem. This song has no emotional soul to it whatsoever, which seems to be deeming in popularity these days. This is strictly my 2 cents and I am not here to judge."
I certainly do not want to be deemed in a vain way. I am a very good person. I do care about myself and others. It just doesn't feel right to live in this $475 apartment with hundreds of high-end skin care products. I don't know whether I should sell them on eBay or what, but I'm done with them. I I will be happy with a bar of soap, shampoo, deodorant and a toothbrush.
I dispose $1000 dollars a month into beauty. I'm left with just enough to pay rent and buy food. I don't have any friends. I don't know what to say, but I'm tired of it. I am quite frustrated with my life at the time.
But, beauty, clearly cannot buy happiness. And that's all I have been living on and I'm done. There's other things to do and people to meet.
Please offer your thoughts and suggestions.
$475? Where the heck do you live to have such dirt cheap rent? It would cost you at least $1800-$2000 for a one bedroom apartment in a so-so area of Los Angeles
And I think that you left a zero (plus an additional few millions) off the price of that beachfront condo.
Where is this magical land of ubercheap rent and bargain basement priced beachfront real estate?
Just be sure you're not trading one obsession for another. If you're dissatisfied with the feeling your lifestyle is leaving you with, you probably ought to reprioritize and focus on things that aren't money and status-related.
P.S. to all the people wondering where you can rent that cheaply, it really depends on where you are located. For most of my twenties, I rented (as a single person, not splitting rent with a roommate) a large, vintage 2BR apt for $300/mo. It happens.
Absolutely fantastic to hear. As for listing your stuff on eBay, unless it's factory sealed, it's not very hygienic. I'm sure you'd find a buyer no problem... it's just icky. My opinion.
From here on out, focus less on your appearance and more on enjoying life. Scrapping together every dollar to buy a a dream condo is a nice idea, but you need some hobbies to just relax and enjoy while making some friends.
Congrats for taking steps now to change your life.
As for your already-purchased products, take anything unopened back to the store for a refund. What is opened, just seal well and stick in the fridge to extend the life of it and gradually use it up over the course of time. If you've already paid for it, the cheapest, simplest thing to do is use it up and once you run out, replace whatever is needed with functional but inexpensive items.
My mom said it best (to my porky dad, who was trying on his really expensive hand-made suits)...
The best acessory is a fit body.
You can try to shop around that, but that's what it's going to boil down to.
And fitness doesn't have to cost a dime.
I agree. One of my pet peeves is fat/out of shape people trying to make up for their short comings by wearing fancy stuff. This goes for women and men.
