Even if Assad is innocent on all other fronts, the fact that he threatens Israel is justification enough for his removal.
In 1968 Israel attacked Egypt. In 1980 they attacked Lebanon and occupied the country for years. In 2006 they attacked again and got their butts beaten. Don't tell me Israel is the most peace loving nation on earth. They even have their own terrorists. I've been to the country too but I'm not going into detail because we won't agree on anything about it.

About time.

P.S. I wonder what program on Russian TV exactly they were talking about in that link ( I am trying to picture the host and the rest of "specialists.")
Sunday Evening with Vladimir Solovyov.

There is a counterpoint to the Saker article.

Correct. The Arabs were poorly organized, despite having a considerably larger force.

It also seems that Russia was informed in advance.
Pure speculation

The Saker's Grim View
I read both and I must say the Saker was putting forth a grim picture of the experts views and almost commented by saying my usual "all they understand is a club" lines. I don't think anybody high up is willing to go into a shooting war yet. I think that the US is going to use proxies as usual and avoid any direct confrontation until further notice.

What's uncertain though is the length of the until further notice. I don't have a lot of faith in decisions made in recent history.

No Israel is most certainly not an innocent peace loving nation. No such country exists.

The 1968 and 1980 attacks/occupations were in response to previous Arab incursions. Israel took over the Sinai peninsula from Egypt and parts of Lebanon. Both of those territories have been returned since. In 2006, Hezbollah captured an Israeli soldier and held him hostage. Israel's response was to target Lebanon with the hopes of eradicating Hezbollah (that failed) and retrieving that soldier. Admittedly, that was a very brutal and prolonged campaign that caused unnecessary destruction, but it had a clear purpose to it.

Israel has never sought to annihilate it's neighbors. The same cannot be said of many Arab and even other Islamic states. Back in 2005, Iranian president Ahmadinejad threatened to "wipe Israel off the map" and he had repeated that statement multiple times over the course of his presidency.

In Israel, many Arabs have been granted full citizenship and there are a number of them who hold seats in the Knesset (parliament). In most Arab countries, it is next to impossible to find a synagogue and references to Israel are nonexistent in locally published textbooks (a few exceptions notwithstanding). The destruction of Israel has long been an objective sought out by many Muslim countries, with some of them taking a softer approach in recent years due to the failure of their past policies.

By the way, formally Britain kidnapped the daughter of Skripal. Relatives are not allowed to her. This is a violation of international laws.

International laws are violated with tremendous audacity. It looks like a new Iron curtain will be down in the near future. I hope the situation does not slide into military confrontation.
