Hey everyone, I'm flying into the UK soon and if I wanted to visit Spain, would I go through immigration checkpoints in Spain or not if my flight originates from England?

Putting it in perspective, is it like flying from one state or another (non-US citizens don't go through internal immigration checkpoints flying from one state to another)?

As far as I know, you will need to go through immigration as the UK and Ireland are not in the Schengen zone.

If you went from Spain to Germany for example, it would be different as they are both Schengen countries.

I'm open to correction on that though.

Even I as a EU citizen had to show them my ID when entering the country so I'd say you'll have to.

To get on a plane anywhere you'd need to show a passport at the airport in the UK and on arrival in Spain. Once you get to the continent there are no internal land borders, so you can take the train/drive from, say France to Spain and never be asked for documents, but if you take the plane you would need to show ID. It's a formality really. Immigration control for you here is more lax than for a European visiting the USA.
