May I ask where did you grow up? Maybe your radio stations didn't play their music.
I am only a few years older than you and I heard of Kraftwerk in my teens!
They were the pioneers of electronica / new wave music in the 1970's.

Kraftwerk influence is in all forms of electronic music, pop, rap,house,rock,alternative,etc...
Those two song, numbers and trans europe express will move any dancefloor today!

Programmed electronic music, the name of the game, even marvin gayes last album used drumm programming,

Miami bass sound, sample based rap music, current edm, even reggae/dance hall .

I can go on, but im going on youtube right now and take in some classic!

Love some of Krartwerk...Numbers, Tour de France, It's More Fun to Compute... Got the vinyl for those...

Some of the other stuff strays into the fringes of Art of Noise territory

My first Kraftwerk album (on 8 track tape) was The Man Machine. Got me hooked on two songs, Neon Lights and Metropolitan. The Model was quite good too.

They did a concert, not so long ago, in a city quite near me (Bristol, England). But it was almost impossible to get tickets. It got sold out online, and people queued around the venue, trying to get tickets - and the majority couldn’t get any.

They sound amazing, live.
