Once a candidate crosses 50% in the polls its considered a safe number for victory in November. The polls also show that undecideds are moving over to Obama.

Obama 50%

McCain 42%

Both Kerry and Gore were leading at this point in elections past, and we all know what happened to them.

Yeah, I do remember what happened to them. I am wondering if there will EVER be another fair election, or will all of our future presidents be "appointed"?? Will the will of the people be honored anymore? Do we need an electoral college still? There's a lot of questions that need to be answered if we are to preserve democracy in the form that our forefathers set it up.

The thing is Obama has had a steady lead over McCain since early in the primaries. McCain hasnt had the lead since the begining of the year. I dont think that was the case with Kerry. Obama has gone through alot including Jeramaih Wright and has managed to keep his lead over McCain.

Were they?

"Bush's convention bounce appeared to be 2 percentage points. The percentage of likely voters who said he was their choice for president rose from 50 right before the convention to 52 immediately afterward.

Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts, the Democratic nominee, was the choice of 45 percent of the likely voters interviewed in the most recent poll. He had 47 percent in the poll taken August 23-25.
Among registered voters in the most recent poll, Bush and Kerry were about even -- 49 percent to 48 percent respectively -- with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points."

Exactly. The one thing the media doesn't stress is if McCain has all this experience, then why isn't he leading in the polls.

That is true. With Kerry and Bush is was almost equal all the time with Kerry leading by 1 or 2 points. Obama has consistantly lead McCain 5 to 10 points with a few dips of 2 to 3 points over McCain. Kerry almost won the election in 2004 so that should tell people its going to be a different outcome for the democrats this year.

With all the drama going on with the GOP, plus their unpopularity, Obama should lead by more points, not by single digits. We'll see what happens when the RNC is over and the debates.

Coventional Wisdom also stated that Hillary was going to win the nomination. She was so far ahead, she was already trying on the crown. Lots can happen in 60 days.

Obama cannot win for the same reason Kerry or Gore could not. When its time to actually vote, when one is in the booth and getting ready to push the button, the reality of just how unqualified Obama is will hit home, and he or she will know in his heart, that while it seems like a neat idea, Obama is not ready and that McCain is the MAN for the job. This country needs leadership. Obama is a nice boy, but he will be perceived as too radical and too green. Lets face it, Obama is no JFK. Maybe in 12 years.

McCain in 2008!
