I think that a person has to weigh all the issues, not just one.
And from there, decide which candidate they most agree with.
The oddity about self proclaimed Christian Conservatives, is that aside from abortion and gay rights, on most other issues, Christian principals really align more with democratic values.
Even though the POTUS does not decide an issue such as abortion, some people maintain that only a pro-life person has the wisdom and compassion to know how to do an important job such as president.
I do not share this opinion.
However, I will respect it-- if that same person holds the same standard for all other important professionals:
1. only chooses a doctor or dentist who is pro-life.
2. only works for a company in which all management employees and the ceo are pro-life.
3. only purchases items from stores run and owned by people who are pro-life.
4. only takes classes from teachers who are pro-life.
5. only drives a car designed and sold by people who are pro-life.
6. doesn't use a computer, because there are no computers that were invented by people who are pro-life.
Some people actually do live this way. I admire their principles. But if you aren't willing to be consistent, it's stupid to care about an issue that isn't part of the president's job.
I'm one of those wishy-washy people who can't really make up my mind which side of the abortion issue I come down on, but I must say that I think there are as many pro-abortion people who would not vote for a pro-choice candidate as the other way. Some people are just hard over on this issue and wouldn't dream of compromising.
I think we discussed last week that the national council of bishops, who are certainly Christian conservatives, said that folks should not be single issue voters.
What do you think about Christian Conservatives who only vote for whoever is pro life?
Personally, I think that is very close minded and ignorant view.
Secular Fundamentalist Neo-libs:
What do you think of Secular Fundamentalist Neo-libs who only vote for a candidate who is for abortion rights?

See, I can be as vacuous as you. That was fun. Keep 'em coming.
