I saw this comment in the thread entitled "I respect Rand Paul for Going to Howard University", or some such.
"They've got to give them a real reason to vote for them..." Assuming, the poster means by them, AAs, or blacks. Not sure the preferred, non-offensive term.

Yes, I used only part of the comment, but for me it is at the heart of the poster's, (djkris?) comment.

I see the comment or a variation on the theme often. Yet, I never see an enumeration of a what "real reason(s)" would be.

Appreciate any who want to support this statement/stance with specific reasons that are real. What does 'real' connote? What are some policies that qualify as real reasons?
