That was the reason as to why they have them. Please explain to all of us just how much is your money is going to these cheap phones? Has it ever occured to you that the cost of operating these phones is so miscule that it does not really matter? Or the fact that the people that are actually paying for their usage are being vastly overcharged?
This is how STUPID people are.
If you have 16 million people, they have a free phone paid for by the government (by our taxes), and those 200 minutes cost 1 cent per minute, how much does that cost?
Those minutes are being paid by someone, and it is not being paid by the person who is using the phone.
Let me ask you, if you had a charge of $0.01 on your bank account, would you say anything?
Now, multiple that by 2-3 million people. How much is that?
It's being paid, whether you like it or not by you!
Your claims and viewpoint are at direct odds with the facts. While you repeat the right-wing meme about "people on the public dole," public sector jobs are down by about a million under Obama and much of those "gravy train" people are seniors on Social Security who have retired (a la the baby boom generation.)
While you claim Obama raised taxes, taxes are overall lower under Obama.
While you claim "Obama has no detailed plan anywhere approaching the details of Romney," the facts say otherwise:

Funding:
Eight labor unions made a five-year funding pledge to the Economic Policy Institute at its inception: AFSCME, United Auto Workers, United Steelworkers, United Mine Workers, International Association of Machinists, Communications Workers of America, Service Employees International Union, and United Food and Commercial Workers Union.[10] According to EPI, about 29% of its funding between 2005 and 2009 was supplied by labor unions and about 53% came from foundation grants.
EPI is one of a number of labor-affiliated groups that was funded by the Tobacco Institute—the now-defunct trade group of the tobacco industry—to oppose excise taxes. The tobacco industry was concerned about the cost of excise taxes on cigarettes, which the Tobacco Institute estimated would cost it “half-billion dollars a year in lost income.” The Institute funded groups outside the tobacco industry, like EPI, to act as a third-party voice in opposition to excise taxes.

So is your solution not for them to have cell phones and quit looking/wanting a job all together? There are going to be some abuses just like anything else but there are people that really need the help.
My co-worker's son was in jail for drugs and then he went to rehab. He couldn't call long distance, so his baby momma used his Obamaphone. A few months later she settled a lawsuit she filed for being in a wreck and got almost $1/2 million. She kept getting foodstamps a while after she got the money. She was warned she could get in trouble but I don't know if she stopped or not.
If you add up all the things that "don't matter" like Obamaphones and PBS donations, you'll have enough money to make a big difference.
Ok, that is one negative scenario, can you post one that is positive? My wife's friend lost her job in Atlanta and was given a phone after she was no longer able to afford the one she had. She was on her way to an interview which she was contacted by her phone. On her way to the interview she witnessed a car accident on Covington which was able to call for help. Oh btw, I bet that you did not know that Obama did not come up with the phone idea, it was bush and your beloved republicans.

No you wouldn't, but if we did spend more money to catch fraud, people like your friend would be fined and sitting in jail for fraud. That would make a difference.
