Excerpt:

"As slow as El Paso’s housing market might be, it’s still a diamond in the rough compared to markets throughout the country.

With home prices plummeting in most metro areas, El Paso is one of the few cities nationwide where prices are actually expected to rise this year – even if it is just by a bit.

CNN’s Money Magazine ranks El Paso as the tenth fastest-growing real estate market in the country,"

"Other cities making the top 10 include Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse in New York; Birmingham, Ala.; New Orleans and Baton Rouge in Louisiana,; Scranton, Pa.; and Grand Rapids, Mich."

Wow, we're ranked with a disaster area- is the property in the 9th ward of NOLA doing better? And really- ranked with upper NY state? I'm from Rochester and the city has been going downhill for years. Kodak has laid off a massive number of people and Xerox and B&L have been downsizing as well. Rochester has had a negative population growth for the past few years, the population has drastically decreased since I lived there. Buffalo and Syracuse are in similar situations. I look at stats like this and laugh. There isn't a major city on this list, the only reason these cities are on the list is because the major cities have been hit so hard by the housing slow down. We'll be off of it next year.

I tend to agree with leavingsoon along the lines of economics. For the fact that the population in Fort Bliss is expanding, one can see that the housing market is growing. That does not necessarily translate to improved, or better economic conditions for El Paso than the rest of the country/cities.

Also, leavingsoon is correct, some of those cities that are compared to El Paso are the armpits of their state. El Paso is clearly above most of the ones listed.

Regards

Oh he can run for mayor, but I have to run for a City rep.. I see where your friendships lie. =)

Its a false reading.. dont buy into the hype.. anytime the military does a huge move like this it will give a false positive like this. So there is no change.. take it from locals that see the many empty houses that are still sitting empty.

Thanks 6/3! I would run for Mayor, although unfortunately, I think I am a bit too fiscally conservative for the majority of the city's ilk to get elected!

I would personally agree,,my house is still in the market,,,,7 months now! Good thing we're in the buyback program so we have an option to leave. Too bad we're not going to make as much money but, oh well, I still have to be thankful since i'm leaving. Yipee! Yeah, people, move to El Paso! You'll love it here! Property taxes are ridiculously high I always feel like i'm being robbed! Thank you for the experience!!!! I'm sure a lot of people can't wait to move down here! Yeah, right!
