Anybody who buys into the belief that the economy is getting better is an idiot.
Need proof? In today's WSJ: "The measure of those adults who can work and have jobs, known as the civilian workforce-participation rate, is currently 63.5%—a drop of 2.2% since the recession ended."

There are now fewer jobs than when the downturn economically ended. Wow.
There were a LOT of people being carried during the "boom years".
Once companies had the opportunity to jettison them they did so.
At the same time another fair size group of marginal by age, health, etc went too.
These positions even to the degree they MAY HAVE needed doing before don't any longer.
Look around you. The jobs that actually need doing... are getting done.

Think about that little statistic a moment. There are now fewer jobs than when the downturn economically ended. Wow.
The baby boomers would have been retiring in droves even (especially?) if there had been no "great recession". That would have driven a decline in the LFPR on it's own.
It seems that after 5 years of steady (albeit slow) recovery, the labor force participation rate is all the negativists have to hang their hat on.
Could the economy be better? Sure. If the GOP owned the White House would you see things in a different light?

Yep, for the past fifty years "corporate welfare" ruled the day!
My unsolicited advice is to not take all the current negativity seriously. There has never been a better time to exist than now. Yes, the economy is going through a rough patch, but intelligent, hard working people will still be valued and rewarded. Leave it to the old folks to dwell on the negative and lament the past. You should focus on the present and the future. Learn and adapt!
Or as the saying goes, "Don't let the bastids grind you down"!
Pay attention.
Get educated in something useful.
Learn at least two quite different and practical skills.
Don't be in a hurry to get married.
If/when you do don't be in a hurry to have kids.
If/when you do don't have too many kids.
Save.
Have fun.
Travel.
Avoid debt and especially on anything that isn't permanent (like real estate)
or earning you MORE money than it costs to borrow (like equipment).
I agree with everything but the part in red. I've seen too many people put off children for financial security and end up childless and sad. I would've had more children had I started earlier. A regret of mine! There must be balance.
