Suppose this were the case...you dog is on the train tracks and can only be saved if you fling yourself onto the tracks and knock the dog off and die in it's place.
No, only because my job is helping other human beings (Physical therapist). And while i love dogs, i consider people more important (im human after all) and dogs lifespans are shorter..not that it means anything.
Also if i were to do that..i wouldnt know what would happen to the dog.. would he run off? Get hit by a car? Die of starvation? Who will look after it?

as usual your post is twisting words...that is not what the debate was about at all. you are changing words to suit you purpose...get it correct at least.
That's really a difficult situation. After having read of stories where dogs have saved their owners' lives I guess I would feel like I owed it to my dog, assuming he or she would do the same for me.

Once again, my point in the other thread was that there is a deep seated instinct in most parents to fling themselves in front of an oncoming train and knock our child off the tracks if that were the only way to save the little one's life. Most people would not even have to think about it; it would be, as I stated before, instinctual.
You posted that you loved your animals as much as you do your children. If that is the case, you'd either fling to save you dog, or you'd fail to fling for either your dog or your child.
If it were not my dog, I guess I would try to save a dog that is on my "friendly breed" list, but I doubt I would risk my life to save one of those fierce dogs such as pit bulls

Yes, neither one, that's what I vote for. I think it would probably be worse to grow up an orphan after up having watched your mother get mutilated by a train than to be hit by the train yourself, and I know my dog would be dead in the pound freezer if she survived and I didn't, and it'd be better to die quickly from a smash from a train than in after the typical pound experience, so no, not in either case.
Anyway, why would it bother you that some people love their pets as much as their children? It's not like loving someone else too diminishes the love one has for their child. If that were so, people with 3 kids wouldn't love any of theirs as much as those with 1 do. Hooey.
No, I wouldn't do that because we'd both be dead and my children would not have a mother. I would frantically call him and hope he/she left the tracks and came to me.
i've always said i would step in front of a truck to protect my dogs. that is how much i love them. because quite frankly, if my dog was hit by a train in front of me, i wouldn't be able to live with myself. but i know that won't happen cause i keep them safe.
