Six weeks! That is such a long time.
Poor, brave Cash. Her owner must have been quite distraught to do what he did, but how awful for his dog.

What a sad story. I feel especially bad for the young mother and child.

I can't understand why he'd want to leave his beautiful bride, his loyal companion and the adorable innocent little boy

I am sure there is much more to the story than what has been published.
Suicide, as has been said many times, is an awfully permanent solution to what is usually a temporary problem.
Unfortunately, some people just can't see tomorrow.

Don't worry I get that, my BIL committed suicide before I ever got to meet him. I know there's more to the story, guess I still can't see why someone would ever think things were that bad to leave others behind to suffer. Before I drift off topic, I'll stop here

My husband's friend did something similar - he kept his dog in the room with him when he committed suicide.

It's the height of selfishness doing that to your dog .
