hitting an american bulldog or an akita, even a simple tap on the nose is a very good way to get yourself bitten...
physical punishment is 100% unnessicary and in a strong willed breed, potentialy dangerous!
So you two women don't think alike in all things. If this bothers you enough for it to hurt your friendship, that is too bad. I doubt that she really meant what she said, I suspect she was just venting to you, not realizing that you might take her seriously. If I were you, I wouldn't give her the chance to hit my dog, I'd leave my dog home in the future. As far as how she talks to her dogs and what she calls them, I'm sure that bothers you more than it bothers her dogs. Maybe you need to give some second thoughts to this friendship. Personally, I'd let it go in one ear and out the other, actions speak louder than words.
nite, while i do agree with most of the "actions speak louder" anyone who threatens to PUNCH (or otherwise physically harm/punish) MY dog, is not someone i would be calling frined anymore...
to me it would be the equivalent of someone threatening to disaplin your kids for you....
if my dog is misbehaving I will step in, take control of the sitatuin and i will do what i feel is correct in terms of reprimand...it is not and never will be anyone elses place to do so and anyone who knows me well enough to call me friend knows that threatening my dogs even if you "dont realy mean it" or "wouldnt actually do it" is not acceptable and a good way to be immediatly removed from my life.
now again this is different than baby talk beat up "oooo im gonna bash you!" or "ooo your such a pain in the tush im gonna beat you up" while fighting a smile...thats different...
"if someone bite my dog im going to puch it in the face" however is NOT accaptable behaviour for anyone of sound mind.
i do agree with talking to the frined about this, explaining why it made the op upset and uncomfortable and see if the isue can be resolved, BUT anyone that threatens to puch a dog in the face...thats not realy "playfull" talk and those words speak loud enough without the action in my books.
