we just moved here in June. We heard great things about Cherry Creek School District and limited our search to that area. We settled on a house in Saddle Rock Ridge area of SE Aurora - about 2 minutes off E470. It's a pretty good jaunt if you want to go to the mountains (about an hour and a half) but, there's a lot of walking/running/biking trails around that my husband and kiddos have been taking advantage of.

My son (7 years old) is in a year round school, and he started last week. He loves it! i was worried about the year round program, but so far have really enjoyed it. He'll go 9 weeks on, then 3 weeks off throughout the year. My daughter (who will be a freshman in High school) has a traditional schedule and starts in August.

I've heard a lot of negatives about Aurora, but maybe it's the part we are in, I havenot seen any of it first hand. I'm not currently working so have been out and about a lot and really like this area. There is decent shopping (Southlands Mall) within 5 minutes of where we live, and quite a few other shopping areas not too far off. My neighbors have been welcoming and are all either "Stick to yourselfers" (come home get in the house, never see them) or very friendly and offer to help if we need anything.

Hope that helps. Good luck on your search. So far we are enjoying it here and the kids seem to, as well!

Oh and as an aside, the hubs and I went downtown for dinner not too long ago, I think it took us 30 minutes to get to the resturaunt, so I don't feel like we're really too far from the city, either.

Yes, stay away from the south end of Aurora if you want to avoid a suburban, family-friendly neighborhood.

What you haven't mentioned yet is price range, or where exactly his work will be.

"Denver area" is huge and so is "Denver". It's hard to recommend an area within 20 minutes of "______".

If you don't know where exactly work will be yet, I suggest renting first, in a very central location. We don't want to tell you to live in SE Aurora when work will be in Broomfield, for example (long commute, much longer than 20 minutes).
