Dude, jjacobeclark, the poster you're responding to no longer posts on this forum. FYI, she moved to Phoenix over a year ago instead of Denver. Give it up.

Give up what? This thread was restarted on 10-12-08 by zenkonami, I'm just adding my 2 cents. Perhaps I can prevent another person from making the same mistake I did. Denver blows for people who don't enjoy the mountains.

Any place "blows" when you have such a sour puss attitude. You don't even know how good you've got it.

Is the arts scene there mainly fine art galleries? Are there arts and crafts shows and events? Also in another post I read that Colfax Street is very dangerous. Does that mean the arts community there is located in dangerous areas? That is, do actual artists live in Colfax Street or just galleries? Just trying to get a feel for your city, in case I move there.

Colfax Street isn't dangerous, it's just dense and urban. Yes, there's crime. Yes, there's pollution. Yes, there's homeless people (which isn't necessarily a bad thing since they're just people down on their luck).

But it's one of my favorite parts of Denver because of its concentration of ethnic restaurants, art galleries, small, one-of-a-kind stores, etc.

The only areas you really need to be concerned about are anything on the Eastside east of Downing and north of 29th (except for Stapleton), and anything on the Westside south of 20th and north of Mississippi (excluding Barnum). Of course, you should have urban street smarts everywhere. It also doesn't mean that these areas are no-go zones, it just means that they have extremely high crime in general, and those 2 areas I mentioned are gang neighborhoods.

All the areas you mentioned are fine, and really interesting.
