I'm a female mid 20's looking into moving to Boston as a student. I've been there a handful of times and just fell in love with the city. Yes, I've been there in the dead of winter, but that doesn't discourage me. I would like to be there before fall 2013 semester starts. Just thought I'd give it a shot and see if anyone has plans to move to Boston next year as well!

Wrong CITY for this post.
Try the BOSTON one.

I grew up in the Boston suburbs (Wayland) and I think that Boston is:
1. great
2. cosmopolitan
3. expensive
4. sucko in Winter

But, I am in my 60s as opposed to my "20's" [sic].

jacjacjac, just curious, which school are you hoping/planning to attend? Grew up in MA and was fortunate to get a good education there.

I guess the question is, where do you want to live post graduation. Go to Boston will mean you will, most likely, get a job, husband, kids on the east coast. Going to boston for school might mean never coming back to Denver.

I used to live in CT. We went to Boston a lot. .but the north east is expensive. Fantastic. . .you have Montreal, New York within 5hr driving. . .lots to do (Whale watching, Lobster rolls, etc).

I think Boston is a great place for a young single. . .for a family, I hope you major into something with a 80K plus post-grad salary.

JacJacJac - want to switch places?! LOL... I want to move to Denver!!!

I live in Holden, MA -56 miles-about an hour drive west of Boston. I grew up here and do like the variation in seasons... The tropical humidity in Summer can be overwhelming and Winter drags here (late October till April) Typical winter days are 25-30 degrees but we'll have occasional spurts of days with temps in single digits and teens......Spring and Fall however are priceless in New England....

Also, there is a reason this place is commonly nicknamed "Taxachusetts" .... it's really getting unbearable to live here unless you make at least $65k (on your own)..... More like $80k if you intend to live within 30 miles of Boston... unless you're living on campus which I would advise. I went to college in Boston (Wentworth Institute of Technology) and I did like it when I was younger. If you want/need any advice on good towns / bad towns, I'm here

So let me know when you want to switch places

Both are good schools, however, BU has a little more prestige. In any event, I think you'll enjoy the Boston area as there is much to see and do especially with all the history there. Culture abounds and you will not be far from NY and other cities in the NE.

Make no mistake about it, though, it will be expensive as the "taxachusetts" label is well earned. However, that's part of the reason for the great schools. As a single student I say this is the time to go for it and make such a move.
