There is a very active Facebook group called 'Memories in Wilmington' that may be another helpful resource for you. There are also many documents that are part of the site that have info regarding the "old" days.

The Columbus Inn might also be something to check out as a drinking locale. It has been called "the country club for those who don't have a country club", although plenty of the patrons would indeed be members of private clubs. It is on Pennsylvania Ave, which becomes Rt 52/Kennett Pike, and dates back to the toluene of the 19th Century. It is a restaurant- bar, but has a wonderful dark bar room with a horseshoe shaped bar. Although the current iteration is different from the one that closed in early 2007, it continues the tradition in some ways, so would be worth looking at the current website. It is essentially in Wawaset Park, and just down from both Tower Hill School and Westover Hills (or also across the road from The Higlands),so could be a good detail to include.
