Hi,

My husband and I are looking to move into a larger home. This home is 3,000 sq feet. Heat/Hot Water would be Natural Gas and the rest of the home Electric. How much would you say the Natural Gas portion would be -estimate? Thanks!

*The home is in Fairways At Odessa National*

My gas bill for December was $267.00 combined with electric our total bill was over $500.00. Our house is about 1700sq ft. Thats keeping the heat at 67 degrees. Yes I cried. I'm in north Wilmington so the rates could be different.

We live down the street from Odessa National in a 3400 sq ft house. Our last gas bill (highest in the 10 months we've lived in DE) was $288. Our lowest was $39.

We live in Middletown. Our house is appx 2800 sq. ft not including the finished basement which is also heated. We cook with gas and the dryer is gas too. We are a family of 6 however two are away at college. (home some weekends and were home for Christmas break...long, hot showers and more laundry!) I usually keep the heat at 68-70 during the day and 64-66 at night. We also have a gas fireplace that is frequently used first thing in the morning and sometimes at night for short period of time. Chesapeake is our gas company. Last bill (Dec) was $216, the month prior was (Nov) $98. (Oct) $64. During the Summer it was 43-55 per month. Looking back our highest bill so far was $285 paid last January ('10). We have lived here since Sept. 2009. Our electric is included in our "town" bill for services...didn't dig that info out but the electric was $$$ during the Summer using the central air.....more money to cool the house than to heat it. Those big, beautiful windows help keep you warmer in the winter but can make you feel like you are in a greenhouse in the Summer, even with being tinted.

haha, I always blame the big, beautiful windows for the higher energy bills. I sometimes can feel the air coming through .....

not sure, how much our bill is, but never as high as poor james' bill .

My wife almost had a heart attack when she saw the bill, now our thermostat is down to 64, and I can't stand it. Most of my neighbors bills are about the same as mine. Its cheaper for me to run the air conditoning than the heat.

It is an older home and the thermostat is located in a bad area, but I can't really complain since I've been home since December 3 because of shoulder surgery. So the heat has been a little higher than usual during the day. I usually set the thermostat at 63 or 64 before I go to work at 6:30am. I go back to work in the middle of february so then I can see how lowering it more during the day works. The other problem for us has been gas heat in general, we're both used to oil heat (wife and I) she grew up with oil heat as did I. Matter of fact this is our first house with gas heat in our entire lives. Propane burns a little hotter than natural gas but neither are close to oil as far as I'm concerned. So to make a long story longer I'm not complaining about the gas bill its kind of a learning process thats all.
