Only that it's exemplary and has great parent involvement. I love the location, as well. It's off some side streets, unless you knew the area you might not know it's there. Makes it feel very much a part of the neighborhood.

All the different dual language, bilingual, ESL programs in Dallas can be quite confusing. Basically, the dual language program they've implimented in some schools involves both English speakers and English learners, as opposed to the traditional bilingual programs that are only for English learners. It's all very involved and I'm in no way qualified to explain it, but the gist I get is that you can take both groups and make them fluent in both Spanish and English. Sounds great to me, and I'm sorry my daughter is too old to have taken advantage of it.

Lakewood LECPTA Home Tour Breaks Records

neighborsgo.com: post your community news

"...approximately $125,000 was raised for Lakewood Elementary, J.L.Long Middle School and Woodrow Wilson High School at the 33rd annual Lakewood Home Festival.

The home tour, auction, market and cafe drew more than 3,000 people with the help of 459 volunteers over the span of three days.

Meredith Manak, president of Lakewood Early Childhood PTA, said this year was a huge success, especially considering the current state of the economy.

“We broke records from what we can tell,” Manak said.

Last year, the event raised about $100,000..."

Thanks to everyone for all the great information. I continue to try to figure out all the wonderful PUBLIC schools in Dallas. Now I have heard about Dealey. Is it impossible to try to get in there? We are looking at entering in kindergarten this fall for all these schools so thankfully there aren't tests or transcripts required but an interview.

Did you check the DISD website?
Dallas ISD-Magnet School Application Process-Application Process (http://www.dallasisd.org/parents/magnet/appprocess.htm - broken link)
Looks like Dealey's open house is in January.

Call the school and find out how many slots they think they may have for 2010-2011 school year. The tricky thing is that most kids enter Dealey at preK and remain in the school, so very few slots open for K.

The best chances to get in to Dealey are PreK and 4th--a lot of their kids leave for Travis after 3rd grade.

Kramer is in a nice neighborhood, but like pretty much every grade school in North Dallas now, no one sends their children to it that lives in the neighborhood. It traditionally was where a large part of Dallas' Jewish children attended school, but it's now far more Latino than Jewish.

I know Walnut Hill in North Dallas has a dual-language program. The school is over half transfer students--they're very accepting of kids from other school zones there.
