I commute from Las Colinas (114 & O'connor) to Westlake TX everyday for the last couple years. The commute is 20 - 25mins. I never catch traffic going to work. Just a little traffic on the way back in the 121/635 exit, usually a 25-30 min commute.

That is what I have seen. Not much traffic in the AM going west from Irving, you get a little hick-up with the construction but nothing big.
However the evening can get bogged down quite a bit around Grapevine Mills where all the construction is. I would say on avg commute home would be 30minutes at best. It's taken me 45- 1 hour to get to Coppell from Keller (westlake is better situated for 114 though) so I would say at times it would be 45minutes home.

But as soon as the construction is completed it will be 25-30.

Thanks a lot for all the responses.

I am planning to send my kids to a private school in Irving, hence looking at the option of getting settled in Irving. I have not been to Dallas yet, I will be exploring the area once I get there and will make up my mind on what other options are available so that the commute to my kids school is also manageable.

Thanks,
Kaash

Default Opposite traffic

I lived right near west lake for 10 years and commuted to various spots around town. I always wished I was going the other direction.

Traffic will all be on the opposite bound side for you. Not bad at all.

I survived hwy 114 going from two lane black-top to what it is today. I left prior to the current construction, but all that is temporary. Go for it!

Default Help with different commute routes

Hello,

I just moved out to Prosper, and I work at American Airlines. I currently take the DNT to George Bush to 183. I just calculated the tolls to be 4.43 one way. This is just too much, so I need ideas for different ways to commute. Complicated routes are OK. 121 is not going to work because of all the construction just north of the airport entrance.

My current commute time one-way is 40 minutes if not heavy traffic. I hope I don't have to sacrifice too much more time to avoid all these tolls.

I don't expect to completely eliminate the tolls, but 200 a month just to go to work is unacceptable.

Thanks in advance.

What about taking one of the other North/South streets instead of the DNT? Preston maybe? And then hop on Bush.

Yeah, that could work if I leave around 6:30 AM to avoid traffic. Or is traffic not so bad on this street in the morning?

Traffic is pretty bad on Preston...

More than likely, you're going to see it's worth the extra tolls to have a faster, calmer commute.Taking Preston to 635 to the Airport is a route without tolls, but it'll take you over an hour from Prosper... how much is your time worth?

What about 380 West to 288, 288 south to 35E, 35E to Bush, Bush to 183? That would still have some tolls, but not as much. It is a complicated route, and puts you on 35E, but seems better than taking Preston all the way from Prosper to 635.

I don't think I would want to take Preston all the way to 635. Preston to George Bush might not be too bad though.

I think taking 380 out to 35 is too many extra miles to go that far around, doubt that would be worth the extra gas and miles on the car.
