So I'm running out of time and am feeling a little hopeless about apartment hunting. Does anyone have any recommendations for 1-BR apartments in the uptown area that have a garage (whether its attached or detached) for under $1,500?

It seems like car break-ins are a common thing in the Dallas area, especially in the uptown area and I understand that more likely than not, it's because of careless individuals that leave things plainly in clear view on their front seat. However, if possible, I'd like the peace of mind of my own garage OR a very well-secured apartment complex.

Prefer non-fratty/collegy apartments.

P.S. Must allow my 20-lb dog as well. It's a package deal here! ):

Thanks in advance.

Sincerely,
Hopeless in Dallas

Have you considered leasing a unit in a condominium building? While they don't have private garages, they do have large gated and controlled access garages usually underneath the building. You can usually find a 1BR for $1500 or a little less. Three very nice buildings that I know of have 1BR's available at or below $1500. Block 588 (loft style) is on Thomas Ave. near Hall St. and there is a 1BR available with a downtown view. The Renaissance at 3225 Turtle Creek Blvd. (hi-rise) is very nice and there are a couple of units there for lease. Also, in Victory Park just 2 buildings south of the W Hotel is a new-ish mid-rise building called The Terrace. You could get a 1BR there with a downtown view for around $1500. All of these will offer secure parking in a common garage. Since most of the occupants are owners, there does not tend to be a "frat-house" atmosphere either. Many landlords will accept dogs as long as you pay an extra deposit. As for regular apartments, Post and Gables have lots of buildings in Uptown. A few of them do offer private garages, but I have no idea what the monthly rental would be. Good luck!

i'm sorry i don't know names of buildings, but many apt. complexes in uptown seem to have under building parking w/ secured gates. you could try to find one w/ a security guard also and that may give you a little more peace of mind.

there are definitely a lot of places to choose from it seems like when you ride around uptown. next time i'm over there, i will write down some names for you.

Thanks everyone for these suggestions. I'll have to look at a few of the condos and the Manchester State Thomas.

Btw, I found this new property called the Alexan Fitzhugh and was wondering if anyone knew anything about the property and/or the area (East of 75 on Fitzhugh).

The area east of I-75 around Fitzhugh is undergoing heavy renovation...for the better. Crappy old complexes have been/are being torn down and nicer places going up.

Yes, I live in that area just north of the Alexan between Fitzhugh and Henderson. Fitzhugh bears little resemblance to how it looked just a few years ago. There has been tons of new construction lately. It's also within walking distance of all the shops/bars/restaurants on Henderson Ave. That is a very nice area to live in. There are also some very new apartments on Henderson near Manett St. that look pretty nice. Don't remember the name, but they are well located if you want to be near some great restaurants and hang-outs.

I lived in the Vue Fitzhugh for almost a year and haven't had any problems or heard of any problems in my complex about break ins.

The Fitzhugh area seems to be reasonably priced with new, nice apartments. This will definitely be an area I'll be looking at. If anyone else has any more recommendations, please keep them coming.
