I am looking at getting a job in Frisco, and live in Las Colinas, so I am looking at doing the reverse (until apt. lease ends). Is it any better or worse than Frisco -> LC? Eventually I may move to Frisco if I like the new job, that whole self contained concept is important, as I drive 30 minutes at least to literally everything.

@jason87x , you will find everything you need within Frisco borderlines, except DFW airport.

Having said that, coppell might be better but outside your price range... South frisco close to 121 might be above your price range too... Coppell is a small town and you can run all your errands for the most part..
Google Maps said DNT to Bush was the fastest route, hence $4.50 each way (assuming Eldorado & MacArthur exits).

I have LC clients who live in Frisco and 25-40 minutes is about right.
The time will vary depending on where you live in Frisco and where you work in LC.

The only problem is it's pretty much toll roads which will cost you $8-12 per day in tolls.

I can get to south Frisco with no traffic in 20-25 minutes.

Are any of the places you mentioned as "self-contained" as Frisco is? I know it's silly but I have major driving anxiety and like to avoid freeways at all costs. Not having to travel far for daily errands is a big thing for us.
Add Flower Mound to the list of Grapevine, Coppell and Irving and take Colleyville out to increase your probabilities. The age of the house will be relatively newer and there are some sub divisions in east FM that would fulfill your definition of "self contained" area with shopping, internal roads and access to highway as well. Colleyville doesn't have much inventory and houses sell fast even in other cities in that range.

In that price, there is severe shortages in Flower Mound and Coppell also. The best selection will be in Frisco.

You could literally pick any suburb or city within the entire metroplex and this would apply, so no need at all to gravitate to Frisco solely for this reason.

If you budget is 200-300k Frisco might not work. You are going to spend over $10.00 a day in gas and tolls depending on what type of car you have.

Most suburbs are self contained. I would look at grapevine

For me the fastest has always been 121/ 35/ loop 12/ 114 regardless of what google maps say. During rush hours, DNT and bush are a mess compared to 121. Having said that, I see your point. When someone says las colinas, I think of O'connor and 114 area which is longer to get to by bush because of a backup on 114 going toward 183. Also, the starting point for was south frisco / east of frisco.
Look, from Parkwood (east of DNT) to 35 is a single toll of $1.38 one way. Preston and Hillcrest is 25 cents, Coit is 56 cents and Independence is 72 cents. So even you if you go furthest point east on frisco, you are looking at $4.20 for a round trip.
Again, if you leave before 7am, i dont see why you can't get to 114 / O'connor from east frisco (independence / coit) in 35 minutes on the route I mentioned...

Why would you pick Frisco if you work on other side of the metroplex? If you wait tillafter march then there'll be more listings available in FM, Colleyville, Irving, Keller, Coppell.
