I have found it very helpful. It lets you know what is going in in your neighborhood, helps with recommendations, I even joined a book club through it.

We have a Google Group for our neighborhood that is more popular. And targeted to information regarding things that actually impact is. I tried Next Door and had to dump it because it was just a bunch of bitchiness andover fighting in other neighborhoods. None of my neighborhood was posting because of that so it was a waste of time.

I think it depends on the neighborhood. I joined a few years ago and it was very quite for our neighborhood, while the devonshire neighborhood was very active. We recently have had some new users join and one in particular that is very active and posts a ton of great information. Mostly about crime watch groups, city council info, new builds and proposals in the area, lost pets, police info, crime info, etc.
