I was excited about living near the Pearl Cup when we moved last year...there was a GREAT coffee shop in Norman, OK that I was looking to "replace."

Had the worst latte of my life at Pearl Cup and never went back. I'm hoping it was a one-time thing, but I'm not willing to waste another $5 to find out. They aren't open as late as I thought they would be either.

Wow! Was it scorched? I really love talking to the guys at Cultivar - they strictly adhere to temperature regulation for the coffee brewing and steaming/frothing of milk. It's total genius coffee!!!

Actually, yes. It just tasted burned.

Not in Dallas, but Lone Star Coffee Bar in the Colony is pretty good, if you ask me.

Is that a good or bad thing?

Too bad about Pearl Cup. I've always enjoyed the coffee there but am probably just a philistine.

Pearl Cup and Murray Street are excellent but not cozy. Maybe the big soft couches are just out of fashion, or maybe the owners think that by making it harder for customers to sink deeply into a state of reverie, they will get more turnover on an hourly basis, as new arrivals are more likely to find a place to sit.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think....Jonathan was one of the baristas at Pearl Cup, he left and took over Stir which became Cultivar under his ownership. He might own it with another cool guy - Nathan, though, not exactly sure. Anyway, pop over there sometime and talk to them about the specifics of a good cappuccino (or my fave, the cortado) - you won't go anywhere else afterward.

I know what you mean, coming from Montreal, Canada I'm used to family owned coffee shops. They would know us by our first names, very comfy and can spend hours just chilling out. I have yet to find a place like that here in Dallas.
