Can you leave your kids with their daddy or your family and come to Dallas to stay with your family here for a month or two to job search? That way, you have plenty of time to prepare for your kids- have daycare, apartment, etc all lined up - and you have peace of mind about focusing full time on getting a job.

If for whatever reason you don't get a job/ don't like it/ can't find an apartment or daycare you can afford/ etc, then you haven't uprooted & disrupted your kids or signed an apartment lease you can't get out of or afford.

Just a thought.

Also, have you considered the expense of continuing your education in TX vs LA? You'll have to wait a year to be considered "in state" for TX tuition. The out-of-state tuition is 3-4X higher!!

I just encourage you to think this through because you have three little ones who depend on you. I don't know what kind of job you will find here that pays more than $25-30k if you don't have a college education. That puts you at poverty level for a family of 4. You are not going to find a 2-3 bedroom apartment in a safe neighborhood with good schools (your oldest will go to kindergarten in a year, right?) for less than $900/mo. Daycare for 3 kids at the cheapest place will be $1,200/mo. $900 rent + $1200 daycare adds up to your entire paycheck from a $25-30k/yr job. That leaves no money for food, car, clothes & diapers, fun, doctors, travel home, etc. Just think it through veg carefully.

You're very young. I promise you it's not the end of the world if you have to finish your education in LA and work there for a few years before moving to the big city. Dallas will always be here and you'll be 27 or 28 with an education & work experience before you know it!

check out who the FBI hires--it is VERY competitive to get in--especially w/o some special training/experience--
it is certainly a worthy objective but realistically graduating from a generic state school is not likely to get you even an interview

moving to TX means you will pay OUT OF STATE tuition--much more expensive than in-state--so you either have to live here and establish residency first or pay higher costs

you have no job lined up and frankly might have trouble getting enough work/earnings to support yourself and your 3 children--they will certainly need day care if you bring them with you and that is one of the highest expenses a working mom has to pay

frankly think being bored would be the least of your problems with all the demands you have raising three children on your own
if you can finish college in Shreveport then do that and earn excellent grades--I mean solid A's--
maybe volunteer with local police or sheriff organization to get some experience and contacts

That's the key. Satan will throw any obstacle in the way for us the lose faith!!! "Faith is taking the first step although you can't see the entire stair case" MLK. If WE all keep pushing either the door will open for us or the wall will weaken and fall down.

Yes I Have applied with Dallas County Sheriff, Dallas County Detention Center, Collin County, Tarrant County, all the surrounding cities. I haven't applied for PD because I really don't want to be a cop. My interest is Investigations. I figure it would be a semi long hiring process but not extremely long

From my understanding, u have to have police work to get into investigations. Just a thought. Keep trying though.

I used to Live in Bossier City long ago and I believe DFW area is going to be more expensive for you. May be easier to finish school in LA then make the move
