Is Dallas metro totally saturated with yogurt shops...or could certain areas still use one (or another one)? Im specifically talking about the self-serve types of places that are weighed by the ounce.

In CA, we are up to our eyeballs in yogurt shops- and they all crank in the money. They are busy all the time! Wondering what the environment is like for yogurt shops in the Dallas area because that is something DH is interested in possibly opening. We have a connection to a franchise opportunity that is so far only in CA...wondering how it would do in a Dallas burb or if there is an area what needs one. Told DH I would ask around on here.

Same question for Cupcake Shops/Bakeries...although I realize these are typically in more urban areas, and typically not in the suburbs.

Just wondering if the cupcake trend is in full swing and where the good places are. We aren't really thinking about opening a bakery (though my mother does AMAZING desserts and small-scale dessert catering), but I love to frequent those places so I want to know where the good ones are! haha!

I would say the cupcake trend is peaking and on it's way down. We have Sprinkles, Dimples (already closed), Gigi's, Cupcakery, and probably a few more cupcakes only shops. Most of these have multiple locations, including burbs like Frisco and Plano. This doesn't even include the local bakeries like Society and Jackie Spratt and AJ's that make divine cupcakes, too!

Frozen yogurt seems to still be on the rise with more shops opening....but we seem to be near the over-saturation point. We have Red Mango, Pinkberry, Orange Cup, I Heart Yogurt, Yumi-licious, Yogi-licious, Freshberry, Yougurtland, Bliss, etc- many of these are within blocks of one another in Uptown & North Dallas. (Also in the burbs, too).

I completely agree with TC80. It seems the yogurt places got overbuilt overnight. The first one opened near me and then all the sudden I saw them all over the place.

I know! Its crazy how many of them there are...and they are all still in business and always busy! (here, at least). Will have to research it further if/when we get there.

Im sad that cupcakes are on the way down. I love them! Its totally like that here, too. =(

There's a yogurt place on every corner but I never see a customer in any of them.

We had a little cupcake scandal:

Only if you can provide something unique. I only visit Orange Cup because they have honey toasted sesame seeds (you have to ask for them!) to mix into my fro-yo. All the fro-yos are the same and rather boring.
As for cupcakes - so many are not truly homemade using whole ingredients. None have actual buttercream. Only one place does this and they do not have a storefront (only special order) - Sugar Lush.

Anyway....I thought cupcakes were on the way out and pies were coming in...

Jackie Spratt's are buttercream. She just closed her storefront before Christmas, but still does special orders (and wedding cakes).

Yes- moon pies, pies, and macaroons are the "in" desserts now.

As others have said......... both stores are all over the place now. Some cupcake places are eh at best while others are the most wonderful creation you have ever put in your mouth. There is a bakery in Murphy right up the road from me, Annie's, and she has BEAUTIFUL cakes and she does cupcakes but not a whole store full of them. Her cakes and cupcakes are divine. If I could work all this technology I'd post a pic of my daughters 16th B-day cake she did.... WOW! And it was soooooooooo good. This is the only place I go for cupcakes. The cupcake places that are going to survive are going to have to be really good and/or also have something else to offer like cakes for special occassions.

As for the frozen yogurt places..... I like Orange Cup, Yogen Fruz and Yougartland. I have a Yogen Fruz and Yougartland right here by me in Firewheel Mall. YF is not busy at all and YL is pretty busy at peak times.

Both are going to be over saturated here real soon.
