What's the best way to get rid of the ice on your windshield? Some recommend pouring water on it.

1. Spray de-icer and scraper.
2. Start the car and use the defroster on high (takes several minutes); then use a scraper.
3. Pour warm water on it while using defroster (I've heard this CAN crack the windshield, however I've done it many times with success).

We used to pour warm water on the windshields all the time till hearing it could crack it. Never had it happen nor do I know anyone that has had that happen to. Haven't done it in years though. Just start the car to warm it up if it is parked outside and put the defroster on high and it will start to clear up usually by the time the car is warmed up and you can easily scrape it off.

If warm water MIGHT crack the windshields, how about just use water that's not warm or hot.

yeah regular cold water straight from the tap will work. It is much warmer than ice. And run the defroster for a few minutes.

If you drive a pickup without a cracked windshield you may not be from Texas.

We get that all the time in Utah. Use a scraper and run the defroster at the same time, then continue the defroster until it melts. An alternative if it happens more than once in a blue moon is to buy a windshield cover, like the sun shades that go in the inside only this goes over the outside. Home Depot/Lowe's usually has them.

Seriously? Ever hear of an ice scraper or parking a car in a garage?
