"More" fun? Totally missed the boat on the first post about this.

How about Canaan & New Canaan? (Cay-nin) Could possibly be pronounced as Cay-non (as in Qur'aan) by out-of-towners.

I never heard anyone pronounce Norwich as "Norrich," honestly. Same with Ledyard. Never heard it pronounced "Led-jerd." CT doesn't have nearly as many weird pronounciation towns as Massachusetts does.

Greenwich, England is also pronounced 'Gren-itch' and as Greenwich was settled in approx 1640 by European settlers, I'm guessing the pronounciation has always been that way. I think Greenwich, NY pronounces it 'GreenWitch' for some reason...

I agree with you on Norwich but I have only heard Ledyard pronounced "Ledjerd", and NEVER Lead yard. Jay

Like Jay, I have never heard it pronounced "Lead Yard." but I totally agree on the Mass. pronunciations. Woburn (wooburn), Leominster (leminster), Gloucester (gloss-tah, or gloss-ter for those w/no eastern NE accent), Peabody (pea-buh-dee)...just to name a few of the towns that are pronounced differently that one would think.

and how bout all the 'hams' - Waltham, Framingham, Wilbraham and a maybe a few others pronounce the last syllable like 'ham' whereas others like Chatham, Dedham, Wrentham pronounce it like 'um'.

I've always heard Ledyard "Led-yerd". I guess when people say it like that, it can have a "J" sound.
