The #8 bus runs you right up Main Street to a Stop & Shop not far from the Trumball Mall; the #10 runs you out to Fairfield (Stop & Shop, Shaw's, Trader Joe's).

This is of course more important for students without cars.

The #1 bus runs through the South End; you can get on it and go right out to The Dock shopping center in Stratford, then back again without having to change buses...

I recently have been accepted to the university of Bridgeport and i went down and visited. From the visit and tour everything seemed great and it was what i was looking for, so i made my tution deposit. Ever since then my parents have only heard bad things about the surrounding areas and are extremely worried that i will get hurt when i attend. I live a very sheltered life in northern vermont and dont know much about city life. I realize that it will be a cultural change for me and there will be some getting used to different things. I wonder if my parents have anything to worry about. will i be safe?

Well, no one anywhere can guarantee safety. That is up to you and what situations you come across. The area surrounding Bridgeport is quite rough--it is sketchy in many areas, while other areas are simply "run down" but fine. The area has not had gentrification/progress in 40, 50 years. It's really a sad situation--and it has much potential.

There are many students at the University of Bridgeport, so I would recommend speaking to them and seeing if they can steer you towards some type of advice and safety rules that they follow while attending there.

It's normal for all parents to worry, especially since their kid is headed off to college. The University of Bridgeport for me personally would not be a top choice, but it all depends on the circumstance, major, tuition, etc.

New York is about 55 miles from Bridgeport. There are trains that can get you there in a about an hour and 20 minutes. Jay

Default I went to the UB

from 80-82. The area had a bad reputation and a friend of mine was mugged at the counter inside Famous Pizza (was it park Avenue near university Pl?). I would go to Pop's grocery at univ and main street and then run back
