In Bridgeport, I'd stick to the Black Rock area. I prefer Stratford, Fairfield and Milford to Black Rock, but YMMV. Downtown Milford is really great and has a good social/bar/restaurant scene, if you can drive for the commute. It's not a long drive. 10-15 minutes. Fairfield is really nice but rentals are a little harder to come by as it's mostly single family homes.

UB is located in the south End adjacent to a stunningly beautiful waterfront park. Just north of the school the neighborhood get dicey very quickly so you do need to be careful. I would not recommend living in that neighborhood.,

You might want to consider looking downtown Bridgeport. It is close to UB but small. There have been a number of old commercial buildings that have been converted to apartments and some good restaurants and entertainment options.

Black Rock is also nice (stay west of Ellsworth Street though). It is a small urban village with a lot of nice small restaurants and shops. The other good area is the North End. This is more a middle class suburban area but there are apartments for rent there as well as homes. Stay north of North Avenue (Route 1) and west of Main Street for the best neighborhoods. Other nice parts of bridgeport include the Treeland and Beardsley Park areas. I hope this helps. Jay

If you are not much past college age and single you might particularly like the North End (I'm assuming that's the area near the Merritt that borders Trumbull to the north and Fairfield to the west) as it is very near Sacred Heart University and a lot of students live in that area, making for a pretty decent social scene. Nicer than the area around UB (except that I agree with Jay that Seaside Park as a park is stunning!)

Welcome and good luck!
