I think the Pacific Northwest can get this in January for weeks but the difference is you can drive out of it. The Arctic coasts get it too for weeks and SAD is commonly diagnosed.
You don't have to go quite as far as that.....in winter places like Buffalo, Cleveland and Pittsburgh have almost constant cloud cover (and unlike the coastal Pacific Northwest, a lot of snow to boot )

As I always say, we go through periods of saying "enough with the rains!".... and "where is the rain, we need it!" Throughout the year or 2. Been like that since forever in this area.

Where is the rain we need it 80% of the time happens with endless summer heat and humidity spells that don’t let up.

There were only a handful of May-June droughts in Connecticut but I never find myself complaining there’s not enough rain! The winning weather pattern is of course a stalled out West-East stationary front over the Midwest, resulting in a big beautiful blue H over the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic and no front to the north of us.

May 2012 gave way to one of these kinds of days and it was 70 degrees with a dewpoint of 30 and it felt surreal.

Different strokes. I think it's been an awful change. I prefer sun and heat to cool and gray. Easily the lesser of two evils.

The sun came out for 15 minutes this morning in Hartford. First appearance of our nearest star since last Thursday. ......then it turned gray again. A cruel tease.

I didn’t see any sun this morning but yesterday around 6pm I saw a very tiny piece of the sky that was not covered by clouds for a few minutes.

By the way 6pm sun, regardless of better weather, is not going to be around come another month because days get shorter this time of year.

Didn't see that in Glastonbury. But at about 7:30 this morning in Hartford the sun made a brief cameo appearance then exited stage left. Back to life in Mordor.

Was Monday's inch or more the remnants of T.S. Gordon? Any chance that central CT sees rain from Florence in the future?

As for South Carolina, is this the first direct hit from a hurricane they'll likely get since Hugo in 1989?
