I agree...deceptive record. Though I can't say I had the heat on even early month or wore a fleece.

Step outside and you feel how humid it is..

Dew Points

Interesting how BDR is only 63. I figured they be higher.

Remember this? I miss the bone dry air! Wow

I agree. I thought maybe the nighttime lows were a lot above normal than the daytime highs, but I looked at both NYC and BDR and they were pretty even (BDR both high and low were 3.5 above normal, NYC the high was 4.7 above and the low was 4.3 above).

Probably just that the 90 and near-90 degree days were more prevalent (and more above normal, avg. high for May is around 70) than the days in the 50s and 60s.

At 66.9 degrees it will go down as the 6th warmest for NYC (chart below shows a tie for 4th). Interesting side note, no pattern to warmest Mays, lots of them in the distant past (two of the top 10 are in the 1800s!), though coldest Mays are often way in the past (but see below, some recent ones came close):

Warmest (°F)
1 68.7 1991
2 68.5 2015
3 67.9 1880
4 67.0 1944/1896
5 66.4 1965/1959
6 66.0 1986
7 65.8 1975
8 65.7 1993
9 65.6 1980
10 65.4 1964/1955

Coldest (°F)
1 54.3 1917
2 55.2 1967/1907
3 56.6 1882
4 57.3 1924
5 57.4 1901
6 57.7 1869
7 57.8 1891
8 58.0 1888
9 58.2 1893
10 58.4 1898

For recent retrospective on "cold Mays in NYC" 2003 and 2005 both averaged under 60 (2003 at 58.7 almost made the top 10 and was the coldest since 1967) and 2008 was 60.1. Last May was coldest since then with an average of 61.1

Ditto! And it felt like an awful lot of cold grey mornings, even though it may have warmed up later.

This doesn't sound like it corresponds to Cam's soil temps.

You are thinking April's soil temps. Once May hit, it spiked into the 60s and kept warming aside from some dips.. We were well above normal for half of May in total and mornings were very warm because of cloud cover.

Here's an update.

1st time this year... My soil temp 4 inches down has hit 70°.

More importantly....... 1st sunny blue sky morning since last week, May 26th.

Only the 5th sunny morning since May 12th!
