After the Wednesday front, the jet stream digs down to the south east. Typically storms form and blow up on the right side of it.

Take a look at Friday afternoon. You have the clipper coming down, the front off shore and a storm off the coast. It rain-snow mix for us

Then look Saturday evening. Storm blows up over New England, too late for us but brings some snow for us on Saturday.
looks like our first snow at least...temps look below normal for a good stretch.

Our springs and falls have been thumbs down the past few years.

Yup.. Winter been ending late. Spring has been shorter, Summer been longer, and Fall shorter past few years.

Check this out... SOOOO COOOOOL.. Awesome idea for a graph!

Using the warmest 92 days for Summer, Coolest 91 days for Winter... Not sure how he got Spring and Fall.

For JFK... Spring in April and May.

Summer looks like it was June-July-August-September.
Some Fall temps in September.
Mostly Fall in October (hmmm, I might argue that actually)
Winter temps started in November

A lot less greens (Spring) and yellows (Fall)

And here is how Climo looks

After Tuesday, for the 25 days left in December Accuweather has the high temps 4.5 degrees below normal. I didnt do the lows. They have stayed steady with much colder for awhile now so i have to believe this is gonna hold.

Nice day out today. Spent the day working outside around the house, cleaning leaves and trimming the lawn one last time. Only wish the sun was out a bit more, then the day would have been perfect.

I really felt we had a short summer this year. I was wearing a sweatshirt into July! October felt wonderful though.

Hmmm, good point and reminder. It wasnt a true summer with heat waves and stuff and was cloudy and wet a lot...but I wonder what temp fits the warmest 90 days at jFK. I assume 75+ for max?

I would love to do that graph for CT sites.

Friday December 8, 2017 Storm Update

GFS has the perfect track for us. Comes from Gulf of Mexico, stays just off the coast coming up. Enough cold air for a little snowstorm NYC northward. (2-6" of snow for us)

Euro and Canadian models have the storm but well off shore and lacking precip. Just a sunny or cloudy day on land.

Navy model has the storm as well but just light precip for coasts

At least there is some excitement in the horizon. Lets be honest, most weather nerds love winter. . per recent NYC NWS Discussion:

"Details with this potential storm are uncertain this
far out in time, however ECMWF has trended toward GFS in its
depiction of surface low passing SE of the 40N/70W benchmark
Friday night
. Have gone with chances of rain, snow, or a mix of
the two for Friday and Friday night. Things become even more
uncertain after this, largely depending if, when and how far
south a lobe of the polar vortex travels across the Great Lakes
and NE. For now, have gone with slight chances of rain/snow
showers for Saturday".
