Here's why it's changing over on Long Island and NYC.

850mb freezing line poking into NYC. Warm air aloft moving in. Strong 990mb Low off Maryland coast now!

Note the yellows curling into towards center of the storm. (50°+F at 4500')

Lots of moisture left, lets see if the cold air can hang on for CT

Loop last 4 hrs. 4-8am. Still all snow in CT. Always fascinating to see it raining across the sound.

Looks like DC reporting rain, to snow to sleet. What a mess.

Philly staying freezing rain past 4hrs.

Watch the Snow to rain changeover on Long Island.

Look at that "purple banding" hitting Binghamton. They have been reporting heavy snow for a good 3 of 4 hrs now

Isobars tightening up (thin black lines tighter = stronger winds as storm strengthens)

Bust forecast for coast. NWS already adjusted totals down. Even inland has less. Goes to show ya all the models in the, world can't nail a storm track perfectly. So fine a line.

How long before a changeover inland? I haven't called out yet officially. I was not planning on going in but will probably get **** if it doesn't get much worse. Not due in till noon and I don't want to wait that long to do it make the call. (plus I have Friday scheduled off).

All my neighbors are still home. I'm being silly - I'm totally non-essential there.

I'll go measure shortly. It's not a complete whiteout but it's coming down good, very fine, pretty straight down but there are occasional gusts of wind.

Southeast of Philly reporting..............

Snow started falling close to 10pm last night accumulated to about est. 1.5 inches then started to mix for the overnight and now plain steady rain. I'm right on the edge of the rain/sleet/snow line.

"They say" that it will continue till after noon time then change to snow in that maybe 1 -3 inches additional accumulation and it ends here around 3 - 3:30pm. Time will tell.

Here's how it looks from outside my bedroom window as of a few minutes ago.

The NAM actually kind of predicted this could happen.

I wonder if these travel bans get put in place so state plows dont have to be out as much...
