Get out and enjoy the sun and warmer temps today.

Rain and cold looks to return in the long term...

Well on and off.....tomorrow and Wednesday still look pretty nice but not the rest of the week.

One of what I call those "teenage weather blogs" on Facebook (it's called NYC Weather Alerts and it's not the "Central Park" blog I often quote) keeps touting a surprise snow for April 8th (next Saturday) even for NYC. But NWS seems to show temps way too warm for that in NYC (50s during the day and 40s at night) and warm enough that I can't imagine it being cold enough north and inland either. Anyone else know anything on this? He has a history of "embellishing" if that helps any.....

March 2017 was colder than February across many areas. It wasn't colder than January though but was close! Last few days ruined it! Bridgeport was colder than December though.

Not to forget a Top 10-20 snowiest March's on record as well.

Wanna see what ruined the March colder than January stat? 5 days right there. 2 Highs in the mid 50s and night lows above norm

Actually as this site shows (and yes, THIS is the Central Park weather blog I often quote and it's not run by some "excited kid"), I think the first 10 days (especially the first day!) ruined it a lot more than the 5 days you mentioned:

New York City Weather Archive

He also notes that at least for them, the only other 2 years since 1900 where March was colder than Feb. were 1984 and 1960 (I thought he might be mistaken or like you have some data questioning where I got mine but I went back to my post and indeed saw the other 4 years were before 1900 (1891, 1890, 1880, 1877 respectively)). He did note that the average LOW for this March was colder than both January and December (as well as Feb), without giving stats on how historic that is. I don't know if that held true for BDR and BDL too. That is interesting considering the trend in recent years of higher low temperatures (a far more obvious trend than average highs, which haven't really budged much through the decades).

Wow. Truly unprecedented, especially with all the buzz we hear about climate change. I wonder if we have been seeing a trend towards later starts & finishes to the winter season up here in the Northeast, the past few years?

Top 30 Season Snowfall Departures for all NWS Climo Sites. Some big moves past 2 weeks!

  • Binghamton still holding 1st place being 55" above norm
  • Gray Maine huge move getting 16 inches of snow past 8 days puts them at 3rd spot now 43" above normal! 123" for the season. Wow
  • Portland Maine also a big move getting almost a foot of snow last 2 days now 3 feet above normal. 95.3" for the season! (normal is 59.3"!)
  • Burlington, VT also a big move. They are in the 100"+ season snowfall club... 2 feet above normal
  • Lastly.... Hartford, Bridgeport, Islip, Concord, Worcester & Syracuse also in the Top 30 highest snowfall departures.
A snowy season it was. Notice no central U.S or Midwestern Sites on the list. Mostly West and Northeast. Interesting!

The last time Burlington, VT had 100"+ season was 2010-11.

Only 9 times since 1892 have they done that. This year makes it 10 out of 125yrs.

Looks like February and March 2017 did it with 30"+ months. Wow what a comeback

Looks like they updated their map. Nice colors!

Accurate for here. I got 40" in my backyard and I'm near the red but inside the Orange (36-48")
Looks like I got the same amount as Northern Minnesota.

Season Snowfall Total.

Great map! Is there a way to get the same map with average annual snowfall? It would be neat to compare that to what actually happened.
