I am pretty sure CT was always higher than MA. I am wondering if this turn of economic events is because of all the top management of GE moving to Boston that reversed MA and CT.

I look up this info every year to quash the CT naysayers, but this year boy did I get a surprise.

GDF Per State Growth or Decline
https://ssti.org/blog/useful-stats-c...tate-2008-2017

The Worst States
WY -12
CT -9 (we are tied for the 2nd worst GDP growth...this is VERY concerning)
NV -9
LA -5
AZ -5
FL -3

Here is an item of note. New York state's GDP grew by 11%. A large part of the New York state economy is from Wall Street. In the past if Wall Street did well so does CT. To see NY state see an increase of 11% and we DECLINED by almost the same amount is VERY VERY concerning.

Great research, CTArtist.

What’s wrong with that? Don’t we need all levels of job opportunities? Would you rather they have built it in Massachusetts or New York?

Sorry but the 1800 jobs the new North Haven Fulfillment Center brings are good for many people. Not everyone in our state has trade or technical skills or a college education. Those people deserve opportunities too. Jay

I usually like jobs, but their DCs are horror shows. Have you not seen undercover reports? Employees often skip going to the bathroom all shift, to hit quotas, and keep jobs.

This is one video of many dozen over the last year.

Some of these aren't really the state's fault. GE had a ton of attrition, downsizing, selling off assets, an outdated company and the stock's been a dog for decades. Then they tried to be relevant again by making a big splash to move to the big trendy city and now that's turned out to be a disaster.
Diageo's 15 year lease is up so they are following the trend to move out of the boring suburbs to the big trendy city. They cite talent pool, but in all reality CT has plenty of talent pool to fill vanilla corporate jobs. They sell liquor, they're not building robots and rockets or finding cures for cancer.

Plus the bulk of GE’s headquarters jobs (600 of the 900) were moved from Fairfield to Norwalk. GE Capital had parts sold or spun off but what is left is also based in Norwalk. GE Capital Bank is now Synchrony which is based in Stamford. So not nearly what people think. Jay

Losing a third of the HQ jobs (including the C-suite) is not a victory. Every cloud has a silver lining but this is a very big cloud.
