Malloy is like a political suicide bomber at this point.
Is it maybe because that New Haven gets funding from Yale, separate from state funds, so doesn't need as much as say Hartford, Bridgeport??? Anyway you cut it, it SUCKS for those who actually pay taxes. Al around

That said, I think something that is a little less draconian will be what actually passes. At least I hope....

Notice how all the rich towns get cuts to funding but all the poor inner cities get huge increases? Wonder why that happens under a Democratic administration.

Also remember that the income tax is used to pay for local public schools and this is funneled to the inner cities. Just another scam to steal from the rich to give to the lazy poor people.

Just noticed this paragraph in the ^ article, regarding the Education Funding that's being stripped from the 30+ Towns, to be given to the State's poorest cities instead:

"There may be a big caveat for this aid, as well: For communities that see increases, the administration has not decided whether to require it be spent entirely on education. Ben Barnes, the governor’s budget director, told reporters Monday, “That is something we will need to discuss.”

So the State has taken away my children's education funding, to give it to Bridgeport, etc. instead; but Bridgeport etc might not be required to use those funds for education????.... What an absolute scam this is....

I like that they did it, but not stipulating the money should only be used to improve vity scjool systems. Hopefully it will pave the way for towns in CT to fund their own school systems and eventually the larger cities as well.

What will happen eventually though, is that in addition to the uber wealthy leaving our State, the hard working middle class and upper middle class residents will as well, once they realize they're the only ones with skin in this game, and that their tax dollars are not even benefiting their own children, their town, their neighbors, etc.; just the decaying cesspools that CT cities are. Let Hartford figure that out once the revenue dries up. Cities will swirl farther down the toilet, and no one with a job (or brain) will be left to sustain and bail them out anymore.

STAMFORD — Uncertainty in the state budget was the focus of talks among Board of Finance members Tuesday, as officials weighed whether to set aside extra funds anticipating a sizable reduction in state aid while setting the tax rate.
The board voted to raise taxes 2.79 percent, setting the mill rate at 26.49.
