That's why many people don't work, and won't work. CT better turn 180 degrees from this idiotic and unsustainable system, before math does its own work.

I think it's all of the above. That's why we need limits. Able bodied people shouldn't be eligible for welfare indefinitely. At some point, they should at least have to do government or state odd jobs.

Well you can keep getting food stamps and rental assistance a long time actual welfare (TANF) does clock out at 2 years 5 years max in a lifetime. There are also work training and job seeking requirements that have to be complied with. The system is setup to try to get people to work, but there are some loop holes. Most of the programs that push our assistance number so high are the high cost of rent and utilities in our state as well as a number of programs for kids. Those numbers for hourly assume a single mother with multiple kids, they also include healthcare, food stamps rental assistance, utilities assistance and things like WIC and school lunch. Many of these programs are also used by lower paid people.

Obama and democrats set up waivers of these requirements, CT is one of the states, in effect guaranteeing perpetual "welfare" for able-bodied adults. We've been thru this before on this thread.

They are still time limited for able bodied adults.

The "able bodied adults" waiver was removed as of Sept 2015. In some states an "able bodied" adult can not even get medicaid. Although I don't think CT is one of these states. There are also asset limits in most states in CT one is limited to $3,000 cash in the bank for all household members.

Also, if you own property in CT and receive medicaid the state has the right to put a lien on that property to recover any money paid out on your behalf. When you sign up for medicaid this disclaimer is right on the form.

As I said many times before any one in CT can all 211 and have all the welfare and medicaid forms sent to their house for free. Then you can verify what I just wrote.

If its perpetual and fun why don't all you guys just quit your jobs and sign up ?

When that runs out, the game is to apply for disability. If you don't have a physical disability, you apply for the "crazy check", which does not have an expiration date.

That's true especially in some parts of the US. It takes 1-3 years to get approved for SSDI however. The only way to get fast tracked is if you have some type of terminal illness.

It's also standard procedure for every SSDI application to be denied when first filed. This is one reason why there is a whole group of lawyers and law firms that specialize in SSDI.

If you want to know more. There is a long thread about SSDI on city data somewhere, but I can't find it now.

Also worthy to note, a SSDI recipient is limited to how much wages they can earn in one year while receiving SSDI and its very low like $600. This limit just de-incentivizes people to work and should be removed IMO.
