Why? The lawyer fees would cost more than their cuts, which is loose change.

You seem to pander to the wealthy here frequently, you must be doing very well, congrats on your success

It just typical for those towns to complain about tiny things

Furthermore If I were these towns I would want to see how they figured out the equation and sue the state on behalf of their towns if they can prove there are some cities/towns like Stamford that has more wealth that is not even getting one dollar cut.
Region 16 is the unified school district between Beacon Falls and Prospect.

Region 16 has a budget of 40.9 million. We lose about 9.3 million out of this, about 22.7% of our total budget. This is a huge problem for us. It says here on my bill:

"The 2017-2018 budget for Prospect estimates that $5,412,308.00 will be received from the State of CT. Without this assistance your mill rate would be 37.75 mills. (Projected assistance is subject to change.)"

Our mill rate is currently 31.25. Most of the homes are probably on average 300k, and assessments are about 180-220 for an average home. If this goes through, it's a $1,300 tax bill to homeowners. Luckily vehicles are capped by the state, but that's a serious tax bill to chuck down at our two towns.

There are so many different topics going on in this thread but I saw something else about the school funding cuts so I a going to put is on. Is you scroll down it gives a better picture of what the cuts to school funding AND grant money to each town. It also shows how much the town/city was getting in 2017 and how much they will receive in 2018 so that gives a better overall picture of what is going to happen to the towns.

Just listen to what the superintendent of the Southington schools says in the clip on top of the page.

The trend will only accelerate. The taxes on my car were $300. That could mean a lot to some people, and my car was only assessed at about 10k. Say nothing about these giant SUVs in a lot of our suburbs.

I have personally thought about doing this, not because I want to screw the town out of $300, but because I actually want Florida plates. If there was a way to get Florida plates and still pay the town $300, even $400, I would.

Regardless, there's only so much you can raise taxes until people go out of their way and take bigger risks to dodge them.

Tolland Public Schools had $10 million for a budget last year. The latest proposal would leave only $2 million, making it an $8.5 million reduction.

"It's an impossible scenario for the schools and for the towns," Willett said.
