Chipotle recently added college tuition reimbursement, paid sick days and competitive hourly wages.
I don't see anything wrong with this.

I agree with GoHuskies. That is still a good opportunity for both high school kids and young college kids... Anything that still contribute to the economy is better than nothing.

Those 4000 employees Chipotle is hiring are for 1700 stores nationwide, says the Article. Just for clarification.

To be sure, Chipotle has been doing very well.

Look, nothing wrong with this. Great for high school/college kids. However, Connecticut needs serious growth in middle, upper middle, and high end jobs. Where is this growth? All I see are posts about Chipotle and Amazon.

The growth in quality jobs has eluded the tri-state region for the entire 21st century, with very few exceptions. To resume growth in that vital portion of the employment market a nationally competitive tax climate is a prerequisite.

Talent will move to jobs, so having say, a population with 34% having graduated college vs 25% will not overcome excess taxation. Quality corps with quality jobs always find the talent they need.

That, and those in their 20's have no issue moving across the country (or locally to Boston, DC or NY) for new opportunities. In fact, many seek it proactively.

Could this be accurate? Hartford & New Haven were ranked two of the worst counties in the NATION for small businesses, by small business owners?

"n contrast, small business owners gave California, Connecticut, Illinois, and Rhode Island an "F," while Massachusetts, Maryland, and New York earned a "D" grade. Providence, New Haven, Buffalo, Albuquerque, and Hartford were the survey's worst*-performing cities as rated by their small business owners." https://www.thumbtack.com/ct/#/2015/1

I'm not that surprised. Our state government is focused on providing tax breaks and incentives to large businesses, so small businesses get a short shrift. But I do think that CT is better for small business than NY, so I'm surprised NY got only a D. Not only does NY have high taxes, but the paperwork and regulations when starting a business there are ridiculous. Certainly worse than CT IME.

I thought this was interesting. While the state has had a couple of large factories close, the number of small factories have for the most part remained steady. And many appear to be doing very well. Jay
