I view it as very important, and was happy to see this insightful article-with the correct sort, focused on net citizen migration by region.

That is why the % change is not in order. Sort was net migration quantity, citizen/residents w/o new immigrants.

Economic Growth In Connecticut Shows Strength At Start Of 2018

"Connecticut's economy started 2018 with a spurt of growth that stood out in New England and in comparison with other states, the U.S. Department of Commerce reported Tuesday."

"Economic growth in the three months from Jan. 1 to March 31 was 1.6 percent, the second fastest in New England, behind only Vermont. It ranked No. 23 among the states, even higher than Massachusetts, which came in at No. 29:".

"And Connecticut’s $268.5 billion economy grew slightly faster in the first quarter than New England, which expanded at a rate of 1.5 percent. The expansion of the state’s economy was only slightly less than the 1.8 percent U.S. growth rate, though Connecticut is struggling to create jobs."

"It’s a good start to the year after the state’s economy, which ranked 49th in 2017, shrank that year and in 2016."

CT went from 49th last to year to 25th fastest growing economy first half of this year

“Fortunately, the good first quarter of 2018 is the fourth consecutive quarter of positive growth (so) expansion is beginning to look like a trend, not just a blip,” said Carstensen, director of the Connecticut Center for Economic Analysis at UConn. “Without restoring consistent growth going forward, there is simply no way in which (Connecticut) will be able to address either its obligations or the need to make critical investments to strengthen its competitive position.”

As I have noted here many times before, Connecticut has always been slow to go 8nto recession and slow to come out of it. Private sector employment has recovered more jobs than was lost in the recession but the public sector has not. This is actually good since public sector jobs are primarily funded by taxes so governments are doing their job with less employees. Great news.

Also note that Jackson Labs in Farmington has exceeded it 10 year employment projections in just 4 years. That is great news. Even better they are already busting at the seams in their new facility and are looking to expand here. As a result of this, per the agreement between Jackson and the state, 86% of their loan is being forgiven. Overall this is Great news. Jay

Great to see-need ten more halves just like it, better.

25th is just middle of the road, after all.

Some states need a de-humidifier, we need a De-Malloy-a-fier.

Massachusetts hired real money guys to manage their pension fund and the fund has been getting good returns on the portfolio. It looks good now but it's a bit worrying thinking about what happens if there is a large market correction. It's tough to get much information on where it's invested. The buckets are too vague.

States will a some point soon shift to 401Ks, most likely not long after Illinois becomes first to be insolvent.
