My husband and I are considering a move to CT. He will be working in Stamford for the forseeable future. We are interested in renting or buying a home in a commutable distance to Stamford and also on a train line in the event he has to commute into NYC. We have two children, 6 and 2, and I would like to find a home in a real "neighborhood" type of environment that has a downtown, can be walkable, and of course good schools. After reading through the posts on this site, I think Wilton and Ridgefield seem a bit rural for me, but I think Westport or Fairfield my be suitable. We would like to keep the price under $800k and would like a 4 bedroom 2 bath.

Within thoses towns, any neighborhoods you would recommend? Also, can anyone recommend a good realtor in the area?

Thanks!

You should definitely check out Fairfield. It's a great town with a big downtown, great beaches, and very friendly people. Lots of us commute into the city as well as Stamford, and you can find something great for well under 800k. We worked with Ann Tonucci @ Prudential and highly recommend her. She took us around for about 6 months, through over 40 homes with great patience while my wife was pregnant and we had a 2 year old causing havoc on our days (we were coming up from the city to look). We still keep in touch with her and will actually be getting together with her this weekend, that's how great she was. her cell is 203-615-2452.

Good luck!

We did the house hunt three years ago and looked at the four towns you mentioned and ended up in Wilton. It came down to Wilton and Fairfield, and we felt we got more for our money in Wilton. The quicker commute to Stamford was also a factor. But Fairfield is a great town.

I think your price point may be tough in Westport, but you may be able to find something you like. Your money will go further in the three other towns.

Fairfield for sure. Wilton and Ridgefield are good options too, but not if you don't like their feel.

I have to agree with the others. In your price range and based on your criteria, Fairfield would be the best option. I am not sure you can get a 4 bedroom, 2 bath in decent condition in Westport but it might be worth a look. Jay

For under $800k 4 bd room houses in Westport will have some major shortcomings in location, layout, lot. There is one on Roseville Rd for $765k I think but it doesnt look like it has a garage. Hope that helps.
